WHAT: Join in the unveiling of a public art piece, vacant lot activation, and a whole bunch of fun!
Local artist and Art West gallery owner Alexie Young has partnered with Brian Keith Ellison of BKE Designs, as well as Chicago community real estate developer IFF and School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) students to activate a vacant lot in Homan Square and spread awareness about a proposed new development on the site.
At “GROW 2022” Young and Ellison will unveil their work and share its backstory. Earlier this year, Art West hosted several events as part of “Project Grassroots,” an effort focused on illustrating the power of environmental change. GROW 2022 will highlight how changes to the natural and built environment have a significant impact on daily life.
Young will give a brief presentation about the sculpture and it’s importance and lead an art walk to visit the activated site. IFF will share about a proposed project to bring mixed-use, affordable commercial development to the site. The event will feature a brunch from local vendors out of the Hatchery food incubator, as well as music and family-friendly activities. All are welcome to attend!
